After an interview, it is common to feel a sense of relief. The preparation is done, the questions over with, and you are out of the hot seat. Make Sure to Get Contact Information

If the person interviewing you set up the interview via email, that is great because you already have their email contact information. However, that is not always the case. If the interview was organized through HR or another employee, make sure to ask your interviewer for a business card at the end of the interview. This will show that you take initiative and that you care about keeping in contact with the person and the company. If they do not have a business card on them, be sure to have them verbally give you their email address and write it down. If you forget to ask for a business card, call the receptionist and ask for their information or email the person you set the interview up with to get the proper contact information.


Personalize the Message

Chances are, your interviewer has had other interviews and is getting multiple follow-up emails. Help yours to stand out from the others by adding personal touches to the message. To do so, mention something specific that you discussed in the interview to show you were intently listening and absorbing. For example, you can say something along the lines of, “I especially liked discussing the daily responsibilities of the position. It’s always nice to meet another NYU alumni.” Talking about details of your conversation and mentioning something you had in common will help jog the interviewer’s memory and have you stand out from the crowd.


Circle Back to Your Strengths

To really drive home the message that you would be a great fit for the open position, be sure to mention your strengths that would help you excel in this position. Work in what you discussed about the job during the interview and bring it back to how your skills are perfect for the tasks. If they talked about the ideal candidate being quick on their feet, mention that you feel you would exceed in this position due to your quick critical thinking and problem-solving skills. If you didn’t talk about particular qualities they are looking for, list your strengths and say how they will help you in this position and the specific roles the job requires.
